tado° presents new Smart Thermostat X (2nd gen), its thinnest and most intuitive thermostat yet

New Smart Thermostat X (2nd gen) combines elegant design, intuitive control and intelligent automation. New software feature releases help households save even more through AI Assist, certified Hydronic Balancing and Multi Home.

Munich, 2 September 2026: 15 years after introducing Europe’s first smart thermostat, tado° today unveils Smart Thermostat X (2nd gen). The launch marks the most complete expression of tado’s vision to create an effortless home for its customers.

At just 17.8 mm, 2nd gen is the thinnest smart thermostat on the market, twice as thin as most comparable devices. It features a clean matte-white finish, minimalist LED display and a new circular touch interface that provides intuitive control directly from the device.

A new top button gives faster access to everyday controls, while the refined user experience builds on existing tado° X features, including Matter and Thread compatibility. The button can be adjusted individually for example to show humidity or boost your heating. 

To reduce maintenance, 2nd gen introduces a USB-C rechargeable battery that lasts for more than 1 year on a single charge, eliminating regular disposable battery changes. Installation has also been simplified and guided setup has been included in the tado° app. The 2nd gen is compatible with boilers, heat pumps and underfloor heating systems.

To date, tado° has helped over one million households reduce energy consumption and lower heating bills. Today, customers save an average of 22% on their heating costs with tado°. Smart Thermostat X (2nd gen) builds on that success by making these cost reductions even easier to achieve through refined hardware and software.

Maximise efficiency with intelligent software

AI Assist was developed to help customers save more energy. Available as an optional upgrade for £3.99 per month or £29.99 per year, AI Assist uses artificial intelligence to automatically optimise heating based on weather conditions and the unique characteristics of each home. Features such as Geofencing, Open Window Detection, Adaptive Heating and Pre-heat Before Arrival work quietly in the background to maximise comfort while reducing energy use.

Hydronic Balancing used together with tado° Smart Radiator Thermostat X further improves efficiency by intelligently optimising the heating system, helping households reduce energy consumption and unlock additional savings.

Since 2011, tado° has helped customers save on their heating bills every year. That’s why every tado° X product is backed by the Energy Savings Promise: if customers are not happy with their savings on heating within the first 12 months, they’ll receive their money back.

Multi Home: Manage every home under one account

From today, tado° also makes Multi Home available, allowing customers to manage multiple homes or offices from a single account through the tado° app.

Whether managing a holiday property, small office, rental property or helping relatives with their heating, customers can optimise every property from one place. It also enables customers to manage tado° products from different lines (V3+ and X) together in a single account.

Smart Thermostat X (2nd gen) is available from today from the Webshop and selected retailers across Europe. It works with the existing tado° X products, allowing customers to seamlessly expand their current smart heating setup.
