tado° connects its 1 millionth home and saves customers energy worth  £740 million

Munich, 20.05.2025: As the heating season wraps up, tado° has connected its 1 millionth home and helped customers across Europe cut at least an estimated £740 million off their heating bills.

Reaching 1 million customers with more than 5 million smart thermostats installed as the heating season ends is a major milestone in the Munich-based company’s mission to cut energy bills and consumption across Britain and Europe. In the process, 2.3 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions have already been avoided.

New figures reveal that tado° products and services have saved customers an estimated 8.5 million Megawatt Hours in energy, which is worth at least £740 million. British customers have saved an estimated £121 million.

To put the energy savings in perspective, 8,558,859.5 Megawatt Hours in energy is the equivalent to powering:

“One million connected homes is a major step in our mission because tado°’s – and Europe’s – future lies in enabling millions of more homes and customers to easily cut their energy consumption as part of the green energy transition.”

tado° cuts customers’ energy consumption through key skills include Smart Scheduling, Geofencing to turn down the heating when everyone is away, individual room temperature control, Open Window Detection and Weather Adaptation. tado° customers can control the temperature of their homes from anywhere, anytime, via the smartphone app or by voice with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant or Apple HomeKit. Notes to editors:

[1] The figure of €870 million (£741 million) comes from analysis of tado°s internal data of estimated customer energy savings and the gas prices consumers paid in each country recorded here by Eurostat, an official website of the European Union. Figures for the UK are also based upon energy price cap prices from Ofgem, the independent government body that regulates the UK's energy industry. Gas prices rather than higher electricity prices and then cost of oil for heating were used to avoid an over-estimation. tado°’s calculations indicate that British customers have saved more than £120 million of the £741 million.
