Is my boiler compatible with tado°?

The Smart Thermostat X (1st gen and 2nd gen) is suitable for boilers that work with Relay or OpenTherm (which is most of them). You can use it to add convenient and smart room control to your water-based underfloor heating and heat pump. You can find out whether tado° is compatible with your heating system in just a few seconds using our compatibility checker.

Can I install the Smart Thermostat X (1st gen and 2nd gen) by myself?

It’s easy to install it yourself. The app guides you step by step — and is customised to your heating system. You can even install tado° when you’re offline.
If you prefer, you can have it professionally installed. Every box contains a manual for use by professional installers.

What is the difference between the Wired and Wireless Smart Thermostat X?

The Wired Smart Thermostat X (1st gen and 2nd gen) replaces your existing wired room thermostats. It can be used to control your boiler or hydronic underfloor heating, for example. The Wireless Smart Thermostat X (1st gen and 2nd gen) communicates wirelessly with your boiler via the included Wireless Receiver. It will work with your heating if you already have a wireless thermostat connected to your boiler or none at all.

Can I add more tado° Thermostats to my Starter Kit?

tado° is designed to work with any heating system. This means you can add as many additional Smart Thermostats (1st gen and 2nd gen), Smart Radiator Thermostats or Accessories to your Starter Kit as you like.

I'm buying tado° for the first time. Do I need a Bridge X?

If you already have a Thread border router in your home, you won’t need a Bridge X. If not, you can either order a separate one at the tado° webshop, or buy it as part of a Starter Kit with your Smart Thermostat X (1st gen and 2nd gen). Please note that the Internet Bridge from the V3+ series is not compatible with tado° X.

What is tado° AI Assist?

AI Assist makes your heating even smarter and more efficient. It adds a set of AI-powered smart features to your heating control system, saving you up to 55% more energy. AI Assist is an optional subscription available in the app for €3.99 per month or €29.99 per year.

What happens if I'm offline?

You can still install tado° if you’re offline. What’s more, Smart Schedules will continue to run even when you’re not connected to the internet because they are saved locally on the device.

Does tado° control underfloor heating in a different way to a gas boiler?

Yes. Each heating system behaves differently. A gas boiler reacts quickly while underfloor heating is slower and needs to be controlled more carefully to avoid overheating your rooms. A heat pump, on the other hand, runs best when it's kept steady. The Control Mode feature allows you to select your system type directly in the app. tado° then adapts its behaviour accordingly. The result: more stable temperatures and less energy wasted. It’s free for all Smart Thermostat X (1st gen and 2nd gen) users. And if you have a heat pump, the Smart Thermostat X (1st gen and 2nd gen) is the perfect form of room control, offering you precise, room-by-room management.
