tado° Introduces “Control Mode” for System-Specific Heating Performance
Munich, Feb 25th, 2026 – tado° today announces the launch of Control Mode, a new feature for the tado° X Smart Thermostat, designed to optimise heating performance based on the specific type of heating system installed in the home.
Until now, smart thermostats typically used one universal control behaviour, primarily optimised for traditional gas boilers. While compatible with heat pumps and underfloor heating, this approach is not always fully tailored to their specific characteristics.
With the introduction of this free feature, tado° users can now select the control behaviour that best suits their heating system - directly in the app with dedicated settings for:
- Traditional boiler systems
- Underfloor heating
- Heat pumps
- A dedicated setting for underfloor heating setups where the boiler is controlled by another tado° device - keeping the valve open even for very low heat requests, as commonly required in Dutch installations
Improved Comfort and Efficiency
Heating systems operate very differently. Radiators connected to gas boilers respond quickly, while underfloor heating systems react more slowly and require a different control logic. Heat pumps, meanwhile, operate most efficiently when avoiding frequent on/off cycling over extended periods.
By aligning thermostat behaviour with the specific heating system, Control Mode delivers:
- More stable room temperatures
- Reduced temperature overshooting
- Faster and smoother heat-up where applicable
- Improved operational efficiency
