Munich, October 22nd – Europe’s leading home energy management company tado° is rolling out a series of software updates in the upcoming month, including AI-powered Open Window Detection, a new room-level Mold index, a customisable app home screen and Apple Live Activities for heating Boost.
The new updates build on tado°’s existing smart heating features and AI Assist capabilities, using greater intelligence and personalisation to help customers manage energy more efficiently, reduce unnecessary heating and keep their homes comfortable.

tado° is upgrading Open Window Detection for tado° X with an AI-powered algorithm that learns how each room normally behaves.
Open Window Detection already uses changes in room conditions e.g. a sudden drop in humidity to identify when a window may have been opened and pause heating to avoid unnecessary energy use. The new AI-powered upgrade adds room-specific learning, helping the system better account for the natural differences between spaces such as bedrooms, kitchens and bathrooms.
This makes detection more precise and reliable: instead of relying on the same sensitivity across every room, tado° learns each room’s normal patterns and can better recognise when a change is likely to be an open window.
Users will also be able to see when Open Window Detection is still learning a room’s characteristics and when it is optimised, giving them greater visibility into how the system is adapting to their home.

tado° is also adding a room-level index to Air Comfort for tado° X .
The feature is based on the established VTT growth model, an established building-science model developed in Finland to assess how environmental conditions affect the likelihood of growth. Rather than relying on a single humidity reading, tado° considers how temperature and humidity develop over time to assess whether conditions could support growth.
The app then classifies conditions in each room as Low, Elevated or High, giving users an indication of how supportive the environment is of growth.
Users can monitor the Mold index across multiple rooms, provided each room has a tado° Smart Radiator Thermostat or Smart Thermostat measuring its temperature and humidity.
By highlighting problematic conditions earlier, the Mold index can help users take action before mold develops - potentially avoiding the disruption and cost of dealing with the problem once it has taken hold.
The feature will be available through Air Comfort.

The tado° app home screen is becoming customisable, allowing users to reorder tiles, hide those they do not use with the option to restore them later should they change their minds.
The update is designed to make the app experience more personal, allowing customers to prioritise the rooms, services and controls that matter most to them rather than seeing the same home-screen layout as every other user.

tado° is also bringing heating Boost to Apple Live Activities, allowing users to see when Boost is active from the iPhone Dynamic Island and Lock Screen, with visibility across Apple Watch and Mac through Apple’s ecosystem integration.
Users will also have a shortcut to return their heating to its normal schedule without opening the tado° app.
It is another example of tado° bringing heating controls into the places users already interact with their technology, making home heating quicker and easier to manage.
tado° will roll out the updates in the next month, starting with the launch of the customisable home screen which is now live, followed by AI-powered Open Window Detection, the new Mold index and Apple Live Activities in the upcoming weeks.
The customisable home screen is available to all tado° customers, Apple Live Activities will be available to all tado° X customers at no additional cost.
The new AI-powered automated Open Window Detection and Mold index is available as part of AI Assist. AI Assist is available for €3.99 per month or €29.99 annually, the subscription includes other features such as automated Geofencing, Holiday Mode, Preheat before Arrival and Adaptive Heating.
